Just as each jewel and timepiece is the beginning of a special story or celebration that builds memories over time, we feel so incredibly fortunate to have started our story and continue to build our memories here in Rochester, New York.
Drawing on his dad's experience running a watch repair service, David forged his own path in the world of diamonds and timepieces. For over 90 years our family has combined our industry experience and expertise with our passion for diamonds, jewelry and timepieces to bring the Rochester community a one-of-a-kind retail experience. We're great believers in following your passions and focusing on the enjoyment of life. That's the spirit with which we developed this inaugural issue of The ROC Report.
Inside you will see it is all about passions - not only designer jewels and timepieces - but in several other areas that ignite Rochester's passions. You'll see what's involved in creating a menu of new-to-Rochester dishes, the innovative support system Rochester has for families whose children display symptoms of ASD, how one of the top five jazz festivals in the nation "Xerox International Jazz Fest" started with over 200,000 attendees, and meet a family whose first-of-its-kind entertainment concept Radio Social began with an American dream.
As different as jewelry and timepieces may be from cuisine, arts and entertainment, sports, and physical care and emotional support systems in our community, the one common theme consistent among these diverse topics is a great love for Rochester and the people of our community striving to make a difference. Each of these is a true, living testament of the heartfelt feeling that it is not enough to be "about" or "for" Rochester, we ARE Rochester.
We are so grateful for the generations of innovation and leadership that have shaped Rochester into the community it is today. The future of Rochester is brighter than ever, and we feel so blessed to be a part of it. A very special thank you to all of you who choose to "Start your Story" with our family at Cornell's Jewelers.

GREY IS THE NEW WHITE:
White paint has always been, and will always be, recognized as an elegant and timeless finish in interior design, especially for kitchens and baths. Within the past 5 years or so, we have seen a more predominant presence in grey-based colors. Like white, grey has always been a great "canvas" color; it has its own value in how it highlights and uplifts the complimentary textures and finishes. Additionally, similar to fashion, grey has been recognized as a classy and chic medium. In the early stages, we found it in the tile; as time progressed we found it in more countertops, and recently in cabinetry. For years designers could only have fun with grey in back-splash and mosaic tile materials, but the cabinetry world has stepped its game up with numerous paint grade options, stained woods, and even cerused finishes. Having grey in your color scheme gives your direction some freedom and ambiguity, as grey can serve both warm and cool palettes, and provide a great balance. If you've got your eye on the kitchen and bath world, you've got your eye on grey.
MAXIMIZING KITCHEN STORAGE:
Maximizing storage in the kitchen has always been towards the top of any client's list, and likely will continue to be. What's changing is new options tailored to fit your lifestyle. Custom cabinetry has always had the latitude of custom wood-based modifications and inserts, but European mechanisms have made a huge impact in the American market. Typically, in Europe, space is at a premium so you need to maximize what you have. Many clever mechanisms today appear flashy, but more importantly make it easier to access space which was once lost in tough to reach areas, or even make the ones right in front of us easier to use. As time progresses these ergonomic and space efficient mechanisms will change our perspectives on kitchen and bath design.
GOING COMMERCIAL GRADE:
As each year passes, food becomes more a part of the American culture, frankly, thanks to the Food Network who is largely responsible for America's fascination with food and cooking. With that, we are finding a change in entertaining. The kitchen again has become the living room for so many families. Commercial grade appliances make a statement as good visual anchors and provide some drama and balance. To many, it's a status symbol, but arguably many more are turning to them for their cooking abilities. High-end appliances today typically boast more BTU's in their burners, simmer options, and different convection modes; think of it as an artist having more tools at their fingertips, each with a different purpose. Commercial grade appliances for the home are made of higher-end materials and fabricated to withstand more intensive cooking for a longer lifetime.
GOING MORE MODERN:
It's inevitable, the larger movements in the world's cultures today all boil down to seeing more simplistic lines, ultimately providing a more progressive modern look. Many people mistake modern and contemporary; contemporary is a style, modern is a period of time. For many today, modern has an instant connotation with being contemporary, and to a certain extent that is correct. Look at car and clothing companies, even Apple, everything is sleek and more minimal. In the kitchen and bath world, you'll hear more requests for a "transitional" style. This tells us that we are moving away from the ornamental and traditional styling into "updated and fresh". Though there will always be a demand for traditional design, the scales have tipped to cleaner lines and materials.VIEW FULL PORTFOLIO GALLERY OF THIS LUXURIOUS TRADITIONAL KITCHEN REMODEL
